PDF -- Portable Document Format Explanation

You may have noticed that many books are available on CD in what is called 'PDF' format.

What is this 'PDF' and what can it do for you?

If you recently bought a computer item, you may have wondered why the package was so small and light. You might even have gone back to the shop because you could not find a manual. Well, better accept it. These hardcopy heavy manuals are something of the past. Instead, you will find now a CD in the package that has all the necessary manuals, setup instructions and other readable material in pdf.

Just to let you know I am in receipt of the CD package and have been perusing the contents. Wow. I'm so impressed. I have a rudimentary understanding of graphology through prior self-study but this!
Oh yes! Very well organized and comprehensive
beyond my highest expectations.
I'm ready to dig in.

PDF stands for Portable Document Format. They are normal electronic computer files, which can be printed by the user in the same way as any other document. The program you need to read and/or print these files is called Acrobat Reader. Most computers you buy already have this Acrobat Reader program on board. If it has not, you can download (Getting it from the internet website) it at no cost from the Adobe Acrobat website. (We include the program free on all our CD's)

PDF is a universal file format that preserves all the fonts, formatting, graphics, and color of any source document, regardless of the application and platform used to create it. Adobe PDF files are compact and can be viewed, navigated, and printed exactly as intended by anyone with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software.

PDF files are used by many companies, government departments, schools, etc. and are included with their products. For instance, most manuals for Microsoft software nowadays come in PDF format. The user can now choose whether to read the book on the screen or to print and read the hard copy. Because PDF files reduce cost in printing, shipping and handling, it is now possible to offer items for a much-reduced price and at the same time still give the customer more options and satisfaction.

Many of our courses, books, worksheets, and not to forget newsletters are also available in pdf format on a CD.

This means that you are now able to get exactly the same course or books in computer pdf format for only a fraction of the printed book price

You decide to print the books yourself on your printer of read them from the screen. Worksheets for example can be printed when they are needed. This is also true for books.

The files can be printed anytime but, to protect my copyright, they cannot be changed, manipulated, or copied in part.

In addition, there is another great advantage. When you read a book from the screen, you can use the 'Search' feature. Any word or phrase in a book can be found within seconds. Think about the time it can save you when looking for a particular indicator, phrase, trait description or other topic.

With PDF files there is no need to have the same application software to open files and they always display exactly as they are created, regardless of fonts, software, and operating systems.

PDF files always print correctly on any printing device and are not restricted by printer limitation. In fact, PDF files are better in quality than printed manuals. This is because the printed material is copied (by the printers) from printed originals. In other words they are a copy of a copy. The PDF's are a direct digital conversion from original documents. You could compare it with music CD's which contain the same (digital) information as the original from which it is copied. The digital code on a CD is the same as on the original. The result is high quality sound.

All original books are "printed" to the PDF format by using a resolution of 600 dpi (dots per inch), which makes them excellent for printing on most printers.

All Dr. Erika M Karohs' books in PDF format print at an excellent quality.
